Hornets Win in Outstanding Fashion

Hillcrest 1 Central 0

Hillcrest senior midfielder David Radebo took an open shot around the 55th minute from about 40 yards outside the box that sailed into the upper right hand corner past the extended arm of the Central keeper.

Hillcrest sophomore goalie Caleb Boston finished the game with 14 saves.

Senior Night

Hornets soccer will recognize its Seniors this Thursday, October 13th during halftime of the varsity match against Neosho. Please join us on the pitch in recognizing the outstanding contributions that our Seniors have made to the team.

Hornets Win

Hornets futbol get their first win at the NCA tournament against NCA. Beating them 7-3. It has been a season of close games and ones where the defense completely collapsed. Depth on the bench has also hurt our progress. The Hornets continue to play with a lot of heart as we move in in trying to find our footing and some more wins.

Season Opener Recap: Hillcrest 1 Waynesville 5

Tuesday, August 30th
Waynesville - Hornets Soccer began their 2011 season with a hard fought away loss to Waynesville.
Hornets took the lead 1-0 about 20 minutes into the first half when Swedish exchange Senior David Radebo connected a long pass down the outside right of the Waynesville 18 to Sophomore Ngozi Gregory who took a one touch into the goal. Waynesville tied the match before half with 1 minute left and second half saw 3 goals in the last 15 minutes. Depth from the bench was a big factor in the outcome but the Hornets never gave in. Additional highlights included sophomore goalie Caleb Boston with 16 saves including one on a PK.
Though a loss, their 5-1 match is a strong improvement over the home 8-0 loss from last year. Hornets Boys soccer is assured more in the W category this year as the team builds on its strong competitive start.

-For those not taking the trip to root on our Football Hornets, please join us on the pitch at 4pm Thursday for our season home opener against Rogersville.

Boy’s soccer wishes their sport cohorts a magnificent game in Arkansas.

Team,

Just a reminder that official season tryouts begin tomorrow 8/8 at 7:30am. Bring both running shoes and cleats.

Also, I wanted to take this time to introduce our new assistant coach, Brent Bevis. Below is a quick intro/bio from Brent himself. Please help me in welcoming Brent to the team and lets think forward in all aspects of the game as we head into season 2011.

Regards,

Coach Gumucio

Coach Bevis: "Hello, my name is Brent Bevis and I am very excited to coach your kids this year!  I have two children who are both in middle school this year, and I have been married for 14 years.  I have ties to many Hillcrest students because I did my student teaching there in 2010.  I went back to college to finish a teaching degree after 10 years of working and raising my kids.  I am currently attending a master’s program at MSU as well as assisting Coach Gumucio in instructing your kids in the game of soccer."
